Diodes are tiny components that control the direction of electrical flow. Imagine them like a one-way street for electricity—current can only travel in one direction, not the other. A diode has two parts called terminals: one is the anode (positive), and the other is the cathode (negative).

How Do They Work?
- One-Way Street: When electricity flows from the anode (positive) side to the cathode (negative) side, the diode lets it pass through, allowing current to flow.
- Blocking Current: If the current tries to go the other way, from cathode to anode, the diode blocks it. It’s like a barrier stopping cars from going the wrong way on the street.
This ability to block current in one direction and allow it in the other is very useful in protecting electrical devices and circuits from damage. It can also help in converting the electricity type. For example, in a rectifier, a diode helps convert alternating current (AC) into direct current (DC), which is used to power most electronic devices.

Where Are They Used?
- In Rectifiers: These are circuits that turn AC (the electricity you get from outlets) into DC (the kind used in batteries). Diodes make this change happen.

- In Protection Circuits: Diodes can protect devices by preventing current from flowing in the wrong direction, which could damage sensitive parts.
