How Do Capacitors Work?

When a capacitor is connected to a power source, electricity flows into it and gets stored between the two metal plates. This is like filling up a water tank. Once the capacitor is fully charged, it holds the energy.

Real-Life Example of a Capacitor

A common example of a capacitor at work is in flash cameras. When you press the button to take a photo, the camera’s capacitor quickly releases a large amount of energy to flash the light. It charges up between shots and then releases the energy in a burst to make the camera flash bright.

Capacitors are also used in supercapacitors, which are special types of capacitors that can store much more energy than regular capacitors. These are used in electric cars to provide quick bursts of power for acceleration, or in backup power systems to keep devices running for a short time during power outages!
