LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) are special types of diodes that glow when electricity flows through them. They’re like tiny lights that are super bright, last a long time, and use very little power. Imagine a small lightbulb that doesn’t get hot and can fit in tiny spaces!
How Do They Work?
When electricity flows through an LED, it causes the atoms inside to get excited and release energy in the form of light. This is different from regular light bulbs, which use heat to make light. Depending on what materials the LED is made from, the light can be red, blue, green, or even white.
Where Are They Used?
LEDs are everywhere! You’ll find them in:
- Electronic Devices: The little lights that show your phone or computer is on.
- Displays: Like the screens on TVs, clocks, and calculators.
- Street Lights: Many street lights are now LEDs because they use less energy and last much longer.
- Christmas Lights: Many holiday lights are made from LEDs because they’re safe, bright, and energy-efficient.
